BATON ROUGE,LA (FOX44) —
Kelvin Shavers wants to remember his son Kaleb like the happy go lucky kid he was, but he is haunted by the memory of seeing his son dead on the side of dark highway.
"Still not able to sleep too good or get back to some normalcy," Shavers explained.
State Police say the 6-year-old walked away from a party in December. He then walked up North River Road in Port Allen and through a cane field. He was later hit by someone driving along US 190.
"Unfortunately in this case there is very little to go on," Trooper Jared Sandifer, Louisiana State Police, said.
State Police say the case is still under investigation but finding the driver won't be an easy task.
"This is not out of the ordinary," according to Sandifer. "Unfortunately, this does happen. A lot of times these hit-and-run cases are not able to be solved in a timely manner."
"I appreciate the troopers doing there part, but I still believe he was hit at that party and dropped off over there at 190," Shavers retorted.
Shavers still visits the place where Kaleb died questioning what exactly happened to his son. Closure is the main reason why Shavers is looking for help from a private instigators.
"What's done in the dark will come out to the light," Shavers exclaimed. "I owe it to him to find out what happened to him."
He won't stop searching until Kaleb's killer gets caught.
Shavers on the verge of tears proclaimed, "There's no way you could do something like that and expect to get away with it. You are going to get what's due to you for doing this to my child. I promise you."
State Police say the person responsible could be charged with felony hit and run or negligent homicide depending on what their investigation turns up.
