Hazmat working overtime to remove illegally stored explosives at Camp Minden
CAMP MINDEN, LA (KMSS) — After taking the holidays off, Louisiana State Police's Hazmat team is back to work moving the more than 6 million pounds of illegally stored explosives at Camp Minden.
The team has moved about 5.2 million pounds of the M6 propellant, and they approximate they have about 800 thousand pounds left.
While the work at Camp Minden is coming to and end, not so for Explo Systems, Inc. The Webster Parish Sheriff's Office estimates the extra manpower and supplies needed to man Doyline checkpoints and other overtime surrounding Camp Minden cost them about $110,000, and unless Explo ends up paying that, there will have to be some cutbacks in 2013.
