BATON ROUGE, LA (FOX44) — Families in East Baton Rouge Parish have a new way to stay fit and find health info fast: HealthyBR.com.
The website is part of a new initiative by Mayor Kip Holden's office and several regional partners. The goal is to help lower childhood obesity in the area.
Louisiana has one of the worst childhood obesity problems in the country, and Mayor Holden said it's a life or death problem.
"People are giving it a second or third thought when they see these little kids who end up dying at a young age,” stated Holden. “We know that it could have been prevented if they would have just had a better eating regiment."
There are several other programs that are part of the website launch, including to add healthier menu options for kids on local restaurants menu, the call for a mobile food market and getting kids more equipment for their PE classes.
