According to predictions from the National Weather Service, it looks like this year will be a more active hurricane season.

On Monday, April 22, a hurricane season public forum was held with representatives form the National Weather Service, the National Incident Management Systems and Advanced Technologies (NIMSAT), and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA) discussing safety precautions that can make ahead of time to prepare.

Congressman Boustany has teamed up with these organizations to remind the public how important safety precautions are in preparation of an active storm season.

"Knowledge is power and knowing what to expect with regard to storms, making sure that families and businesses have a plan going into the storm season it's very important," he said.

Yesterday was the first briefing on the forecast for the 2013 hurricane season and discussion on the needs and preparations for the public of south Louisiana to take in dealing with a tropical storm or hurricane threatening the state.

There will be two more forums for the public in the future.
