LAKE CHARLES, LA (FOX44) — A 23 year old man from New York died this weekend after he attempted to jump from a rooftop building to the parking garage. A dive team located his body in the water between the two structures.
The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office was called out to the L’auberge Casino on Friday, June 1 by friends of Rory McDonagh. They told investigators that they were all in town from Houston on a business trip, but hadn’t seen McDonagh since the night prior.
Sheriff’s Deputies searched all the rooms at the casino, conducted a search of the wooded area around the resort by air and on 4-wheelers, and the waterways.
Then, surveillance footage captured McDonagh in the casino parking garage at around 2:30 a.m. on Friday. He appeared “intoxicated and disoriented.” The footage shows him jumping onto a rooftop building from the parking garage.
A search was then conducted of the water directly below where he was seen jumping. His body was discovered below the two structures.
We’re told no one witnessed his jump or fall into the water, but witnesses do say he was intoxicated.
Sheriff Mancuso says the full coroners report will determine if there was any head trauma with the fall causing death or whether the death was caused by drowning.
