THE OFFICE OF JUVENILE JUSTICE — The OJJ Command Center received a tip about a sighting of the youth and dispatched a team to investigate. The Command Center followed OJJ policy and protocol.
Jetson Director Daron Brown, who was off duty, acted on his own and attempted to act on the tip, which he heard on his radio.
We believe he felt he had solid information on the location of the youth.
Director Brown made numerous calls to the Command Center and law enforcement to let them know what was taking place during the chase.
Our staff contacted law enforcement between Baton Rouge and New Orleans.
Early this Saturday, we learned that Director Brown had been possibly misled by an informant when he pursued vehicles thought to be carrying our escapees toward New Orleans. Again, he was acting on his own - outside OJJ command – and he has been placed on administrative leave pending a full investigation.
