BATON ROUGE,LA (FOX44) — Around three thousand people headed out to Waddill Outdoor Education Center for National Hunting and Fishing Day.
On National Hunting and Fishing Day it doesn't matter if your four or forty four getting outside to enjoy the ‘Sportsman's Paradise’ is the name of the game.
“I’ve been here every year that we had it,” said fisherman Ken D’Armond. “I went through my grandsons even the grand daughters and now my great grandson. "
Kids got a chance to try a little bit of everything outdoors including fishing archery and even skeet shooting.
"It's just really cool to just be like out here and hanging out with a bunch of people who like to do the same things that you do," said shooter Brianna Young.
This is the 28th year the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries hosted a special day for celebrating the outdoors. But, it's not just about fun it's about learning too.
"What we sought to do is to get the experts in all of these different realms to come together, so anyone, no matter what their background is, if they want to try something out here's the place,” said LDWF spokesman Gabe Giffin. “You can come ask those interesting questions that you wouldn't be able to get the answers to anywhere else. "
Kids who got a chance to come say the event was a blast.
"I think it is important because then you get a lot of exercise,” said Young. “You get to have fun shooting and everything else fishing. "
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries also hosted events in Monroe, Woodworth, and Minden.
