BATON ROUGE, LA (FOX44) — Kids living off South Harrell's Ferry in Baton Rouge got a chance slip and slide and hang out with East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's deputies Saturday.
The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office hosted it's annual "Summer Fest" at the St. Jean Apartments.
The idea is to bring fun and food into areas where deputies respond to calls, but this time give kids a positive experience. And of course let them check out the cool swat car!
Deputies say it's a way to talk to kids on their level.
"Quite often they just want to know what we have on our belt, and they ask wide varity of questions," Captain Steve Young, with the EBRPSO, said. "Community involvement is very important, and our communication with the community is a big part of our work in being able to combat crime. "
Event goers got a chance to win big throughout the day. The sheriff's office gave away bikes, canes gift cards, and even $200 off rent.
