Lightning sparks roof fire at BR apartment complex
BATON ROUGE, LA (FOX44) — A lightning strike is believed to be the cause of a fire that happened in the Baton Rouge area yesterday afternoon.
The Baton Rouge Fire Department reports that the call was made around 5:28 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 5 for assistance at a four-plex on Bles Ave. When they arrived they found a small fire on the roof of the apartment complex. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the blaze, preventing it from spreading and causing more extensive damage.
Investigators believe the fire was caused by a lightning strike.
At one point during Sunday’s storm there were roughly 900 lightning strikes over the course of 30 minutes in the Baton Rouge area. Fortunately, Entergy did not report massive outages, rather, only small pockets around the city.
Flooding on surface streets, however, was an issue. Click here to see images submitted by viewers related to the flooding.
