LIVINGSTON PARISH, LA (FOX44) — Hurricane season is over, but the cleanup from Isaac is far from finished in Livingston Parish.
Livingston was one of the hardest-hit areas of the region.
At the parish level, cleaning debris from local waterways has been a challenge because the parish can't prove who's responsible for the debris.
Livingston residents have been approved for more than $10 million in federal assistance, which is five times as much as EBR Parish.
"It's not back to normal, especially for the homeowners,” stated LOHSEP Director Mark Harrell. “You know, we had 3,900 homes in the parish with water in it. We've never seen that before in Livingston parish. It'll take years to recoup from that."}
Livingston Parish and its sheriff's office are buying a few more high-water vehicles, due to them having more water rescues during Isaac than they could handle.
