Local casinos hope 24-hour drink service will have positive business impact

Thursday, March 14, 2013 - 9:00pm

In last night's Metro Council meeting, members voted to put Baton Rouge's casinos on an even playing field with casinos in other parts of the state.

Casinos in the Capitol City will be able to serve drinks 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The city's three casinos will be the only places in the parish that won't enforce a 2:00 a.m. cutoff time. Unlimited drinks will be available from 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 am on the gaming floor only.

Some people say this will be great for Baton Rouge, while others think it's unfair to local businesses.

“Certainly for us and the other casinos in Baton Rouge, it means we can compete on a regional level,” stated a representative with L’auberge Casino. "I think for hotel customers coming in for conventions, and certainly for businesses in general, it will certainly be a very positive impact."

Baton Rouge used to be the only place in the state where casinos had a 2:00 a.m. cutoff for people on the casino floor.
