An 18-Wheeler plowed into the back of two cars at the I-10 / I-110 split Thursday morning. It is hard to believe anyone in those cars survived.
When Robert and Twilah Haynes left their home in Brusly this morning, they never imagined they would witness such a frightening scene. Mrs. Haynes had a doctors appointment in Baton Rouge. As they made their way across the bridge, they said the traffic was nothing out of the ordinary.
Robert Haynes said, "When we got to the other side, the traffic was slowing down and we were behind this big truck."
While the other cars slowed down, "it changed lanes and ran into the back of two cars."
The Haynes say the blue Honda took the hardest hit, "When it hit it, it threw it."
But the 18-wheeler also crushed the back end of a Nissan Versa, trapping a man inside. "It shoved the cars against the median rails."
Acadiana Ambulance happened to be crossing the Mississippi River at about the same time and was able to help out the victims quickly.
Twilah Haynes says, "The little girl keeps saying there's nothing wrong with her, but she told me she doesn't remember anything that happened."
Mrs. Haynes may have missed her doctors appointment, but I think they will understand.
"We are very thankful we are here and praying that nothing happens to the rest of the families here."
Police say everyone's going to be okay.
