BR Cop Rape Charge

By Jon Fairbanks

It is Officer Jeffrey Webb's job to uphold the law.  Tonight he's accused of breaking it by raping a teenage girl.  Officer Webb is a veteran of the Baton Rouge Police Department, but tonight he sits behind bars in Livingston Parish, where the alleged rape took place.

Baton Rouge Police officers take alleged criminals to jail, but this time the roles have been reversed.  One of their own, Officer Jeffrey Webb, faces rape charges.  And it's a case that's shocking to anyone you talk to.

The alleged attack happened at Webb's house on Sunday night.  The girl's mother alerted police and Webb turned himself in Monday night.

Sgt. Don Kelly said, "That investigation has begun.  Corporal Webb will remain until the internal investigation is completed."

Deputies also arrested a 20 year old friend of the alleged victim.  Megan Matthews allegedly provided alcohol to the teenager and drove her to Webb's home.

If convicted in this case, Officer Webb could face up to 25 years in prison.

Officer Webb has been on the force for 12 years.  Police tell us he's had two previous suspensions, both in 2000.  But he's also received 9 commendations.
