Agriculture in Louisiana has had a record year, and now the numbers are out that prove it.

There was a 6.5 percent increase over the course of 2011, giving Louisiana over 11 billion of earnings. The state saw record sugarcane production at nearly 2 million tons of sugar was processed.

2011 also saw the most corn, soybeans and rice harvested in the state, ever. In all, the highest total values were in feed grains, soybeans and animal and livestock commodities.

"Last year demonstrated one key critical economic fact, that producers are still depending on global markets to determine the process they receive and the products they make in any given year, including a year like 2012 in which we had so many records in Louisiana agriculture," John Westra, LSU economist, said.

The news was not all good. 2011 saw record lows in cotton, and sweet potatoes.
