Louisiana starts flu vaccinations today

The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals is putting up a fight - a fight against the flu that is.

With the “Fight the Flu” campaign, the department is reminding everyone to get themselves vaccinated against the yearly bug.

"Between 1,000 and 3,000 people die every year from the flu and this is a preventable disease,” stated Lieutenant Governor Jay Dardenne. “If people simply get vaccinated, you can prevent the flu."

The typical flu season lasts from January to March, but health experts say the flu has hit Louisiana much earlier this year.

They also warn this flu season could be the worst in 10 years.
