LSU area businesses wait for big baseball crowds
BATON ROUGE, LA (FOX44) — LSU area businesses are about to get bombarded by baseball fans, and managers say it's a good thing.
"We are expecting a really good crowd for regionals," Courtney Elderling, manager Walk-On's on Burbank, said. "We are so lucky to be in Alex Box stadium's shadow."
Hundreds of hungry baseball fans are headed to Baton Rouge. Elderling said she's bringing in extra staff this weekend to help out.
Drew Galloway, general manager of Pluckers, explained LSU baseball fans are loyal, loud, and love to celebrate a Tigers win!
"The entire bar was singing 'Calling Baton Rouge' for about 20 minutes after the game ended," Galloway described.
LSU area business are happy to help make that happen.
"I would just say it's going to be a very good weekend especially for the summer time," Galloway said.
Last weekend was a good weekend too. Huge crowds from Bayou Country Superfest helped boost business.
Now businesses are banking on baseball fans to bring in the big bucks to beat the summer slump.
"Everybody taking off for the summer," Elderling explained. "We love this crowd early on in the summer to bring us business."
"LSU is doing really good this year and it makes our summer last three weeks longer. It seems like some of the students tend to stick around a little bit longer in the summer when LSU does well," Galloway said.
Which means if you're looking to catch the game at your favorite watering hole be prepared to wait.
"We are already getting phone calls today it's wednesday at 10:00 in the morning asking how early people can get here to watch the game," Galloway expressed.
"So it's kind of first come first serve," Elderling said. "You got to get here early enough to beat the crowd."
LSU and Jackson State play at 2:00 p.m. Friday.
If LSU wins they'll face the winner of the UL vs. Sam Houston game Saturday.
