LSU PD: File false police reports, face fines or jail time
BATON ROUGE, LA (FOX44) — LSU Police say they are getting false reports of crimes, including people are telling them they've been robbed at gunpoint.
However, in several cases, the charges proved false, and the suspected victims have been charged with criminal mischief.
"It is a serious matter to falsely report crimes, because it does prevent us being in other areas and deterring crime that's happening or could possibly happen,” stated Corey LaLonde with LSU PD.
LaLonde says anyone who files a false police report is looking at a $500 fine or six months in jail.
LSU has had four cases of false reports in just the last few months
