Memorial blood drive and benefit set for Saturday

Thursday, June 14, 2012 - 5:00pm

A blood drive and benefit is set for Monet Plaisance on Saturday, June 16, in Zachary as a memorial for a young girl who drowned. One hope is to raise awareness about the low percentage of child organ donation in the state.

Three year old Plaisance drowned on April 14, 2012 in the family pool, and her organs were donated to LOPA, which is the Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency. Since being donated, her organs have helped to save the lives of four others.

Louisiana ranks low on child organ donation percentage, so her family wants to raise awareness.

LifeShare will be at the benefit taking blood.

There will also be plenty of food, activities and entertainment including jambalaya plates, a DJ, cake, spacewalk, face-paint, raffles with gifts from Sephora, Lids, Raising Canes, and Build-A-Bear. There will also be a toilet toss game with prizes for the kids.

All proceeds will go into a memorial fund that The Zoe Foundation set up for Plaisance, which the family will use for the foundation they are setting up called Monet's Pink Rubber Boots Foundation to raise awareness about organ donation for children.

The benefit will be held this Saturday, June 16 at Fellowship Church at 1555 E Mount Pleasant Rd in Zachary from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
