A memorial ceremony will be held today to honor the 19 Arizona firefighters who were killed fighting the Yarnell Hill Fire in Yavapai County in Arizona.

State Fire Marshal, Butch Browning, and Department of Agriculture and Forestry Commissioner, Mike Strain, will hold a small public memorial Tuesday, July 2 beginning at 2:00 p.m. It will be held at the Louisiana State Firefighters Memorial which is located on the grounds of the State Fire Marshals' Office at 8181 Independence Boulevard, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

The ceremony is being held in conjunction with the Louisiana State Firemen's Association and the Professional Firefighters of Louisiana.

In a joint statement, both Browning and Strain stated, "It is with great sorrow that we announce plans for this ceremony in honor of these brave firefighters. Both the citizens of the state of Arizona and the entire country suffered a tremendous loss yesterday. We owe a great deal to those who selflessly put themselves in harms way every day to protect us. Out hearts and prayers go out to the families, friends, and fellow firefighters of these heroes."

The public is invited to attend and share in honoring those who have paid the highest price and to let them know that they will never be forgotten.
