Mississippi man killed in morning single-vehicle crash in St. Helena Parish
ST. HELENA PARISH, LA (FOX44) — A Mississippi man was killed in a single-vehicle crash that happened this morning in St. Helena Parish.
The Louisiana State Police reports that the crash occurred shortly after 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 14. We’re told the driver, James Ponder, 26, of Mount Olive, MS, was driving down LA 10 near the St. Helena / Tangipahoa Parish line. Officials say he swerved off the road to avoid hitting a slower moving vehicle, and overturn his truck.
We’re told the crash caused the vehicle to travel for 70 feet before it came to rest.
Reports indicate that Ponder was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators do not believe impairment was a factor in this crash.
