Baton Rouge residents living near on or near River Road need to stay mindful of the rising waters of the Mississippi.

All the snow in the Midwest that's built up over the past few months is finally melting, causing the Mississippi to rise. Also, recent downpours certainly haven't helped.

Right now, the river is at 34.8’; the minor flood stage is 35’.

Some residents along River Road say they're not worried, but others say it could be a problem.

"I mean that is kind of a scary thing,” said Trent Helms, who lives off of River Road. “The river is right there - you can see the levy right behind me. That would be awful, especially with LSU being that close."

Other residents don’t seem too phased. “During Hurricane Isaac, it didn't really overflow, so I’m not concerned at the moment,” stated Thomas Carter. “It’s not raining here. I don't see why it would be overflowing."

With the potential for heavy rain this weekend, experts say we could reach the minor flood stage by next week.
