UNITED STATES — This holiday season was a record-setting one for the makers of mobile devices.
Nearly 17.5 million Android and Apple smartphones and tablets were activated on Christmas day, which is the highest number of activations in one day - ever.
By comparison, activations last Christmas were just under 7 million, marking a 250 percent increase for 2012.
Flurry, an app analytics platform that tracks such data, said that more tablets were activated than smartphones. The iPad, iPad mini and Kindle Fire HD accounted for over half of the activations on Christmas day.
