Los Feliz, CA (KTLA) — Police have identified the murder suspect found dead at a home in Los Feliz after allegedly killing an elderly woman as actor Johnny Kendrick Lewis.
Police responded to a home in the 3600 block of Lowry Road in Los Feliz about 10:40 a.m. Wednesday after receiving several 911 calls from neighbors who reported hearing a woman screaming.
When officers arrived, they found Lewis, 28, dead on the driveway of the residence.
They went inside the home and found the body of 81-year-old Katherine Chabot Davis, of Los Angeles.
The L.A. County Coroner's Office says that it appears that she died of blunt force trauma.
Investigators believe that Lewis beat Davis to death, and then ran outside, where he got into a fight with a neighbor and his handyman.
Lewis then ran back into the three-story home and either jumped or fell from a roof or balcony, according to police.
His preliminary cause of death was listed as accidental or suicide, the coroner's office said.
Friends say Davis was a realtor who rented rooms to actors and producers in the entertainment industry.
It's possible that Lewis was a current or former tenant, though the exact nature of their relationship was not immediately clear.
According to IMDb.com, Lewis has appeared in various film and TV projects, including "The OC" and, most recently, "Sons of Anarchy."
Lewis has also had one-off roles on "Criminal Minds," "Bones" and "CSI" and appeared in the 2007 film "Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem."
TMZ reports that Lewis had just been released from jail on Sept. 21 and had several criminal cases filed against him at the time of his death.
The nature of the offenses was not clear, according to the website, which also reports that Lewis was recently in rehab.
Citing law enforcement sources, TMZ says Lewis may have been on PCP or methamphetamine at the time of the murder.
The two people who fought with Lewis before his death apparently told police that he exhibited "superhuman strength."
Authorities have not commented on the possibility of drugs being involved.
