BATON ROUGE, LA (FOX44) — People with serious problems are now being turned away from Earl K. Long Hospital and those who need an overnight stay also aren't being accepted.
The “turnaways” are just another step toward the official closure of Earl K. Long that's less than two weeks away. The hospital was a vital part of the community and locals say they will be unconvinced once it officially closes.
"I think it’s going to hurt the poor people in the community because they rely on Earl K. Long for their medical needs," Francesna Coats, a Baton Rouge resident, said.
"It’s going to impact the community because we actually live at Earl K Long and it’s very easy and affordable," Tonya Haynes, another Baton Rouge resident, added.
When Earl K. Long closes, LSU will transfer all of its clinics and services to Our Lady of the Lake.
