NOPD recovers stolen hearse after funeral home heist
NEW ORLEANS, LA (WGNO) — Friday afternoon, New Orleans police converged on the corner of Jackson Avenue and Prytania wearing cloves and carrying finger print dust.
They began looking for clues on a black Cadillac hearse that was found at the scene.
The hearse was taken the night before from Charbonnet Funeral Home. A burglar also stole electronics, musical instruments and cash from the business before getting away in the Caddy.
Louis Charbonnet, the business' owner, says surveillance cameras captured video of the burglar. Charbonnet says the video shows the man also looking at bodies in the business.
"Every time he passed by, he stopped and looked at the guy like he knew the person. That just kind of aggravated me, kind of really threw me off," Charbonnet told WGNO News.
Charbonnet believes the burglar may have been homeless. If you have information on the case, call CrimeStoppers at 504-822-1111.
