O’Neal Lane left-turn restrictions take effect today
BATON ROUGE, LA — Beginning today, Friday, Jan. 25, workers will restrict both northbound and southbound left-turn movement along O’Neal Lane from Firewood Drive to Medical Center Drive at Oschner Health Center as part of the next phase of a Green Light Plan project to widen the roadway. The restriction will remain in place for the next 6 months.
The left-turn restrictions are necessary for crews to install new sewer force main along the middle of O’Neal Lane and complete construction on the roadway’s interior travel lanes, one of the final major phases of construction remaining as part of the Southeast Area Group Project. Crews plan to redirect northbound O’Neal Lane traffic to the newly-constructed outer northbound travel lane the morning of January 25, at which point workers will immediately begin preparing the roadway for excavation and installation of the sewer pipeline required by the project.
Throughout this phase of construction, all left-turn movement will be restricted along O’Neal Lane from Firewood Drive to Medical Center Drive at Oschner Health Center. In addition, left-turn movement from cross-streets and business driveways onto O’Neal Lane along this stretch of roadway will also be restricted throughout the closure period. For complete details of the planned left-turn restrictions, including maps outlining recommended detour routes and U-turn access points, please visit the Green Light Plan website.
Motorists requiring access to cross-streets and businesses along this stretch of O’Neal Lane during this phase of construction are encouraged to utilize designated, signalized U-turn areas located at Medical Center Drive and Firewood Drive in lieu of normal left-turn movement, which will be restricted due to the construction scheduled to take place along the middle of the roadway.
Motorists requiring access to Interstate 12 and areas north of Interstate 12 are encouraged to utilize alternate routes, including South Harrell’s Ferry Road, Millerville Road and Old Hammond Highway.
Message signs warning of the left-turn restrictions will be posted on O’Neal Lane in both directions approaching the area, and motorists should exercise extreme caution when traveling in the vicinity. Travel times may be affected and motorists are encouraged to factor in potential delays when using detour routes during the closure period. Motorists are strongly encouraged to utilize other routes when possible and to follow posted U-turn signs located on O’Neal Lane at both Firewood Drive and Medical Center Drive.
