VENICE, LA (FOX44) — Officials have identified the pilot who died in the helicopter crash near Venice on Wednesday, Oct. 9.
Officials identified the pilot as Patrick Becnel, 47. He was a former Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office pilot and a well-known citrus farmer in the area.
"He was a lifelong resident of Plaquemines Parish and his life touched the hearts and lives of many people," a representative of his family said in an official release. "Patrick is deeply missed by many family and friends in the community."
Three other people were on the chopper at the time of the crash. They were rescued by the Louisiana Coast Guard and transported to a local hospital.
Becnel served as president of the Jefferson Parish Farm Bureau. He is survived by his wife and three children.
