LAFAYETTE, LA — UPDATE: Two northbound lanes on I-49 have been re-opened for traffic while recovery crews attempt to upright the truck. Police expect the scene to remain active for at least two hours.
ORIGINAL: At approximately 2:30 p.m., Lafayette Police responded to I-49 northbound between I-10 and Pont De Mouton regarding an overturned 18-wheeler tanker truck.
The type of material being transported by the truck has not been confirmed.
All traffic on I-49 northbound is being diverted. Personnel from the Lafayette Fire Department’s Haz-Mat Unit is on scene assessing the situation.
The truck is the only vehicle involved in the crash and there are no reported injuries at this time. The roadway will be closed until further notice.
