Galliano, La — A Raceland woman died over the weekend from injuries she sustained in a crash on the evening of April 27, when the vehicle she was riding in struck another vehicle head-on.
The investigation revealed that a 2004 Jeep Laredo was traveling south on LA 1 in Galliano, LA, shortly before 10:00 p.m. The Laredo was being driven by Brandon Cheramie, 31, of Galliano. A 2001 Buick LeSabre was traveling north on LA 1 approaching the Laredo. The LeSabre was being driven by Benjamin Sanchez, 31, of Galliano. The two vehicles struck head-on in the southbound lane of LA 1. This crash is still under investigation.
Cheramie, who was wearing a seat belt, received minor injuries and refused treatment. Sanchez, who was wearing a seat belt, received moderate injuries and was transported to Lady of the Sea Hospital. The passenger in the LeSabre, Jeneva Billiot, 24, of Raceland, received critical injuries and was transported to Lady of the Sea Hospital. Billiot was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Billiot was later transported to University Hospital in New Orleans where she died over the weekend due to the injuries she sustained in the crash.
Cheramie submitted to a breath test and was found to be above the legal limit of 0.08, and was arrested for DWI.
Sanchez submitted a blood sample and was cleared of any alcohol involvement.
