Pilot dies in helicopter crash near Crowley

 A pilot died today after he lost control and crashed a helicopter near Crowley.

The incident happened at around noon on Wednesday, Oct. 10 in the small community of Lyons Point, which is located between Crowley and Kaplan on Hwy. 13. We’re told the pilot struck a wire that was located on the tower for the radio station KYBC, BIG 102.1. That caused the pilot to lose control and the helicopter crashed after falling roughly 250 feet to the ground.

The pilot, who has not yet been identified, died at the scene.

The accident is currently under investigation by the FAA and the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office.
