A Plaquemine man, Cedrick D. Smith, 24, was killed in a single vehicle crash on Thursday night shortly after 9:00 p.m.

The initial investigation revealed that the crash occurred near the ferry landing on River Road as Wilbert Pryer, 23, of Plaquemine was driving along a curve.

For unknown reasons, the car ran off the left side of the road into a ditch and struck a telephone pole.

Pryer and Smith were both unrestrained at the time of the crash. Pryer suffered minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital.

Smith, who was riding in the front seat, suffered fatal injuries.

A toxicology report is still pending; however, excessive speed is considered to have been a factor in the crash.
