The intermittent closures are slated to occur from Boone Avenue to Blue Bell Drive beginning Monday, July 8 at 7:00 p.m. and will re-open on Thursday, August 1 at 3:00 p.m. Both lanes will re-open daily to thru traffic between 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. One lane of traffic will be maintained from 7:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.
The full closure is slated to begin on Thursday, July 18 between Boone Avenue and Bennett Drive and will reopen Monday, July 22.
This closure is needed to allow the contractor to install a sewer main as part of the East Baton Rouge City-Parish Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) Program Central Consolidated Force Main Phase II Capacity Improvement Project. The overall project is scheduled for completion in September, 2013. The SSO Program will reduce sanitary sewer overflows, protect the environment, and allow the City-Parish to meet Federal Consent Decree requirements and Clean Water Act regulations.
During the full closure, it will be necessary for travelers along Lee Drive to detour using Highland Road to Stanford Avenue. Please note that no permitted loads will be allowed through the construction zone.
The EBR SSO Program reminds motorists to drive with caution through all construction sites and to be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment. Drivers should also pay close attention to any traffic signs and directions given by flagmen or police officers.
