ASCENSION/LIVINGSTON PARISH, (NBC33) — Officials from Livingston and Ascension parishes are set for community meetings about a much talked about roadway. People on both sides of the parish line say if the road is coming, they're ready.
"It’s a nightmare. It really is."
Nightmarish is the only word business owner Angelia Deoteau can use for traffic near her hair salon.
"Now they put the new circle in at Port Vincent which has helped some, but any time there's a wreck on the interstate the traffic backs up through here and it could back up two or three miles," Decoteau explained.
And for home owners, the situation isn't much better.
"It’s very congested and if you have a wreck on interstate 12, it backs up on 42 here for about 5 miles," Raymond Ficklin said.
But a proposed four-lane Parkway could be in the works. Officials from Ascension and Livingston parishes are putting the information out there about a roadway that would link the two parishes and cross the Amite River, something Decoteau says she's all for.
"I would love that. It would be very accessible to get to the interstate. It would be great for our business because it would open the roads up for new clients," Decoteau exclaimed.
And while everyone agrees the roadway would help ease their traffic woes, what they'd really like to see is ground broken, and soon.
"Well we'd like some action taken. Stop all the talking and lets get it moving," Decoteau said.
"I know it'll be happening, just not sure it's going to happening in my life time," Ficklin said with a laugh.
