BATON ROUGE, LA (NBC33) — The Recovery School District hosted an enrollment fair for the Baton Rouge Achievement Zone in North Baton Rouge Saturday. Potential students and their parents were treated to free food and face painting.
The Baton Rouge Achievement zone is made up of 7 schools serving the 70805, 70802 and 70806 zipcodes.
The goal of the achievement zone is to turn failing schools around by bringing in new talented staff and combining community partnerships with parent engagement.
Veronica Howard Sizer with the Recovery school district said, "These are open enrollment schools and anyone who would like to attend a Baton Rouge Achievement Zone school is welcome to attend. "
Istrouma High School Principal Robert M. Webb Jr. said his students are already visiting him to find out what new changes will happen this school year.
"At this juncture we know that we need to offer the best education plan for our students,” said Webb. “We have come together with the achievement zone to make sure that happens for our students and not only for our students but our community.”
