BATON ROUGE, LA (FOX44) — The American Red Cross relies on lots of people to help it operate around the country.
Today, the Baton Rouge chapter honored all the women who keep the organization working.
At its 15th annual Power of the Purse luncheon, the Red Cross celebrated women who give at all levels, from volunteers to donors. As part of the luncheon, there was a fashion show, an auction, and a speaker from the Dallas chapter.
"We're so blessed to have so many very great volunteers who are experienced, who give their lives,” Karen Eddlemon, American Red Cross, said. “They're there at a moments notice."
Local leaders said the event was a great way to say thank you for all the Red Cross does, both at home and overseas.
"If it were not for the American Red Cross, I don't know that we would have the connection to our military men and women that are currently serving, or the families that are connected to our military," Ronnie Edwards, Baton Rouge Metro Council, said.
Today's event also highlighted the history of the Red Cross, and how women have shaped it from its founding to the present day.
