BATON ROUGE, LA — A report says Tyrann Mathieu will remain at a drug rehab facility in Houston for the near future instead of transferring to another school or enrolling at LSU for the fall semester.
The report posted by WVUE-TV says that Mathieu has been at the Right Step recovery center since Monday.
He was dismissed from the LSU football team Friday August 10 for reportedly violating the team’s substance abuse policy.
Mathieu can transfer to a Football Championship Subdivision school without sitting out a year.
LSU officials say the St. Augustine alum is off of the team for the 2012 season but they would not speculate on a possible return for the 2013 year, leaving the door open.
Mathieu was a Heisman trophy finalist in his sophomore year after capturing the nation’s attention with his game changing plays and his nickname, the “Honey Badger.”
