Scale smash event hopes to redefine image of beauty to fight against eating disorders
BATON ROUGE, LA (FOX44) — Smashing scales – that’s what some women at LSU did this afternoon.
"The scales represent any number standard or imperfection that might hold us back, so we here to have a smashing good time as we call it," Carly Wahlborg, LSU junior, said.
Southern Smash is an organization founded by an eating disorder survivor from Baton Rouge. Yesterday and today were part of a two-day event aimed to help women dealing with body image issues and eating disorder problems.
Today’s event included bandana painting, a be-you-teautfil photo booth and of course the scale smashing.
"It feels really good,” Taylor Christensen, LSU junior, said. “We all have this number that we define ourselves by and it just feels good to know that it doesn't matter. In actuality, it’s so insignificant. There is so much more with in ourselves."
