Speed a possible factor in Ascension Parish Fatal Crash

Tuesday, March 26, 2013 - 1:00am

A Slidell woman has died as the result of a crash in Ascension Parish.

On the afternoon of March 23 shortly after 2:00 p.m., State Troopers began investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash that occurred on LA Hwy 74 at LA Hwy 928 (Bluff Rd.) in Ascension Parish. The crash took the life of 49-year-old Slidell resident Cheryl A. Babylon.

The investigation revealed that the crash occurred because Babylon failed to properly take a left hand curve, causing her vehicle ran off the roadway to the right. She overcorrected and hit another vehicle, driven by Sunshine resident Mark Crochet, 35, head-on.

Despite the fact that she was properly restrained, Babylon sustained fatal injuries from the crash.

Impairment on the part of Babylon is unknown at this time; however, excessive speed may have been a factor in the crash. Troopers have submitted a toxicology sample from Babylon to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

Crochet suffered only minor injuries as a result of the crash.
