BATON ROUGE, LA (FOX44) — It isn't just construction delays - with bad weather comes bad traffic and a lot more accidents.
The Louisiana State Police say they usually see over twenty car accidents a day when it rains compared to less than ten on a normal day.
The main cause of the accidents are people are not slowing down and people driving too close to other cars.
However, officers say the construction is a huge factor in the increase in accidents lately.
“There are more accidents anytime there is construction, especially times when there is heavy rain, take I-10 for example,” stated Jared Sandifer with the LSP. “The roadway is different now and it changes on a day-to-day basis because of the construction. People don't alter their driving habits; they think they are driving on the same road they drove on yesterday, but it may have changed."
Sandifer also says when the weather is bad, especially on I-10 right now, that drivers shouldn’t forget to wear their seatbelts and slow down.
