WATSON, LA (FOX44) — Jessica Bonura teaches special education at Live Oak High School. Her son Benjamin is one of her students. They couldn't be more excited Live Oak is unveiling its new campus on Monday.
"We have been so excited to go ahead and get into this school. We've been waiting it seems like forever and now that it's here, the excitement is just so grand. Everyone is just ready," says Bonura.
And the campus is more than ready to support the 1,200 students who will step on campus next week. It has everything they'll need to learn from smart boards to computers.
"It's phenomenal. We're so excited. It's like an early Christmas gift for us.
Tracy McCrae is the principal at the school. Her soon-to-be campus has gone through its ups and downs in the two years it's taken to build. Thieves stole more than $100,000 worth of copper delaying completion. But despite the difficulties, she couldn't be more thankful.
"Just an attitude of gratitude,” says McCrae.
And that's a feeling shared by her teachers and students as well.
"The students are so excited and it's really great to see their appreciation of what's being given to them. They understand that we do have a great facility and just they're ready," states Bonura.
