A small study of store-bought lipstick suggests the makeup may be doing more than giving the appearance of plump, shiny lips -- it could be increasing your exposure to toxic metals.

Researchers at the University of California-Berkeley tested over 30 different lipsticks and lip glosses, looking at the amount of metal each contained -- like lead, cadmium, chromium and aluminum.

They also researched health guidelines to learn what is considered a "safe" amount of intake for each of the metals.

They found average use of lipstick could increase the amount of chromium in the blood -- which has been linked to stomach tumors.
