Louisiana (KETK) — A study by the Mercatus Center at George Mason University shows Louisiana to be the 37th "freest" state.
In the latest edition of "Freedom in the 50 States," dozens of categories were reviewed and readers ranked the states based on the freedoms that matter most to them.
Louisiana's jumped up eight spots since 2011; however, it still finishes in the bottom half of most free states.
It ranks 17th in fiscal policy, 46th in regulatory policy and 40th in personal freedom.
The study also shows that neighboring Texas is the 14th freest state in the United States.
New York rounds out the bottom half of the rankings coming in at 50th in overall freedom.
