Thief buys phones, gas for other people with stolen credit cards

Detectives are looking for a black woman who was seen stealing a wallet at the Wal-Mart on College Drive.

Casey Hicks, a sheriff’s spokesperson, says the suspect stole a wallet out of a woman’s purse around 1:30 p.m. on August 14, 2014.

The woman used credit cards from the victim’s wallet to buy cell phones, phone cards, and gas for several people at two Baton Rouge gas stations.

Hicks says the woman used the cards “twelve times before the victim was able to notify her credit card companies.”

Investigators describe the suspect as a black woman wearing a white top with blue jeans.

Anyone with information concerning this incident or the identity of the suspect is asked to contact the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office at 225-389-5000.

Crime Stoppers is also offering a cash reward for anyone with information leading to the arrest of those responsible.
