Threatening call prompts lock-down of schools, public buildings in Thibodaux

Tuesday, October 9, 2012 - 10:00pm

Schools and buildings in Lafourche Parish are on high alert this morning after an anonymous phone call made threats against the facilities within the city of Thibodaux.

The Thibodaux Police Department reports that the call was made around 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 9. Although little detail has been given regarding the nature of the threats, we are told that the caller did specifically mention local schools as well as the police department.

“As far as we know it was general threats,” David Melancon, Thibodaux Police Department, said. “The caller was upset with the police department as well as the school systems. Police officers have been positioned at the schools and official buildings have been evacuated.”

Investigators are currently working to locate the caller.

“Threats associated with schools and police departments are not taken lightly,” Melancon noted. “Anytime you have that kind of threat, you want to make sure you have the people safe and protected. It’s not taken lightly.”
