Monday, November 26, 2012 - 11:00pm

A pedestrian was struck and killed in a crash over the weekend. Troopers now believe a second vehicle involved in the crash fled the scene, and they need your help tracking it down.

The Louisiana State Police Troop F report that the incident occurred on Saturday, Nov. 24 shortly after 10:00 p.m. We’re told Billy Smith, 51, of Bastrop, was walking along US Hwy. 165 in Morehouse Parish. A passing vehicle being driven by Jessica Blackman, 58, of Bastrop, hit Smith and caused him fatal injuries.

Troopers conducted a further investigation and have learned that a second vehicle was involved in the crash. However, they have not indicated how it was involved. They say the vehicle is believed to be a Chevrolet SUV or passenger vehicle with damage to its front bumper and undercarriage.

Troopers ask the public for assistance in locating the second vehicle, which fled the scene of the crash. If you have any information related to the crash or the second vehicle, call (318) 345-0000.

Safety is a shared responsibility for all road users, including drivers and pedestrians. A majority of pedestrian fatalities, nearly 70 percent, occur at night. Pedestrians are encouraged to wear light colored clothing, reflective materials, and to carry a flashlight at night. Drivers are encouraged to obey traffic laws, be alert, and to watch for pedestrians at all times. Additional pedestrian safety information may be found online at www.walkinginfo.org.

Troop F has investigated 25 fatal crashes which have resulted in 27 deaths so far this year.
