A car accident in East Baton Rouge Parish has resulted in the death of a Port Allen man.

On January 30 shortly after 7:45 p.m., Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop A began investigating a two vehicle crash that occurred on USA Hwy 190 west of Scenic Hwy. near the Huey P. Long Bridge in East Baton Rouge Parish.

The crash occurred as Smackover, Arkansas resident Alvester Moore, Jr., 51, was driving a tractor-trailer eastbound on US Hwy 190. Moore was attempting to turn left off of US Hwy 190 onto a private driveway. At the same time, Wilson Battley, Jr., 60, was driving an SUV westbound on US Hwy 190.

As Moore crossed the westbound lanes of travel, Battley's vehicle struck Moore's trailer. The Escalade became stuck under the trailer and was dragged north off of US Hwy 190 onto the private driveway. Despite the fact that he was wearing a seatbelt, Battley sustained fatal injuries from the crash.

Driver impairment on the part of Moore is unknown at this time; however, Troopers have submitted a toxicology sample from him to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation, and charges may be pending.
