UPDATE: Bomb threat reported at LSU
Baton Rouge, La (FOX44) — An evacuation order has been issued for LSU’s campus due to a bomb threat. Details are limited at this time and no specific location on campus has been given. The alert was issued at around 11:30 a.m.
LSU asked everyone on campus to evacuate as quickly and calmly as possible. LSU maintains roughly 30,000 people on campus, daily.
The bomb threat also includes the University High School, which is located on LSU’s campus. They are providing updates via Twitter. They say students were “…sequestered in the new gym. The gym is being swept by bomb sniffing dogs now.”
Parents are asked to pick their children up directly from the school gym and to use East Campus Drive.
The Baton Rouge Police Department is assisting the LSU Police Department to help direct traffic. However, LSU’s campus maintains roughly 30,000 people daily. We’re told that traffic conditions will be slow moving for sometime.
LSU Student Media reports that students who are without transportation should report to Broussard Hall (near WCA) and in front of Evangeline Hall (near Union). They say vehicle transportation is being provided at those locations.
The Louisiana State Police are assisting by providing bomb technicians to investigate.
The University asks for everyone to avoid calling the school unless it is an emergency.
We will continue to update as more information becomes available.
