Veterans Day ceremony to be held in downtown BR

Saturday, November 10, 2012 - 7:00am

On Saturday, there will be a special service by the USS KIDD to honor those who’ve served in the Armed Forces.

The service will be held at the Old Louisiana State Capitol at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow morning.

Mr. Joe Nathan Jenkins, who is a U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam and a Silver Star recipient, will be speaking at the ceremony.

The keynote speaker will be Mayor Melvin "Kip" Holden.

The Baton Rouge Music Club Chorus will also perform a tribute to the men and women veterans in attendance.

Officials from the USS KIDD say the whole week is really a time to say thank you.

"Veterans Day is a way to thank our veterans and all of our military members, who made sure that this week, we were able to go out and vote,” stated USS KIDSS Superintendent Tim Nessmith. “It’s a good day to come out and say thank you."

The service is scheduled to last about an hour.
