Witnesses rescue one occupant of fatal 18-wheeler crash

Two people died after an 18-wheeler drifted off the road, hit several trees and became engulfed in flames. One person did survive due to the quick assistance of passing motorists.
The Louisiana State Police reports that the crash happened at roughly 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 19. We’re told the 18-wheeler was traveling down Interstate 12 near the Lacombe exit. For some reason the vehicle drifted off the road and did not come to a rest until after a patch of trees.
Officials say the 18-wheeler caught fire immediately after impact. However, passing motorists stopped to provide assistance and managed to pull one person from the vehicle. Two remaining occupants were not removed before the flames overwhelmed the area.
The surviving victim was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries.
