Zachary School District Superintendent search
ZACHARY, LA (FOX44) — Thursday was the first day of school in the Zachary Community School District. It's the number one ranked school district in the state. Change is coming though. Current superintendent Warren Drake is leaving in just three weeks. Parents in the district hope the person who takes over can keep that high standard going.
"I would like to see someone who picks up where he left off and continues to achieve to be the number one school district in the state,” says Zachary parent Belinda Dubee.
Drake has helped the school district become number one for seven years straight. Sharon Samuel is part of the school board that will pick Drake's replacement. She says they are looking for a person who cares more than anything else about the students' education.
"We're looking for a leader, a visionary that will go along with our strategic plan that we've been following and been very successful with and an education that cares about the kids,” says Samuel.
She hopes to have Drake's replacement picked by December and on the job by January. Drake's last day on the job is September fourth. He knows whoever takes his place with have a tough job with all the changes coming because of Governor Jindal's education reform plan. But he feels that whoever the school board hires will continue Zachary's tradition of educational excellence.
"The system will continue to flourish with the foundation that we have," says Drake.
